  help please for a longtime wordpress newbie who knows nothin`!? I have a category 3149 which has appeared as if by magic and I cannot seem to delete it. I delete it one day, its back the next. Can someone please tell me anything about this or any experience with this issue? Many thanks.

  Try renaming the category and then deleting it, but first review your posts and change any posts with that category over to another one.

  Go to options > reading and set a default category. You can change it when you write a post, but make sure you have one set that exists in your list of categories. I think this is happening when the original default category of “uncategorized” has been deleted and a new default has not been set.
