Existing Site: I need to be able to Sort within my site by Category, not tag…
How can I add sort by “category”, e.g., easily -e.g., sort by a medical category, I.e. , (specialization, illness, diagnosis) or (brain, central nervous system, types of cancer, types of disease (e.g., multiple sclerosis, Parkinson, Alzheimers, Dementia).
I used to be able to sort via a “ Sort within site to select category Search” for a category at the bottom of my page to easily sort a post topic within a SeARCH by mapping category to post

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

  • Hey there, I’m not quite sure what you’re referring to with sorting by categories — are you trying to order categories alphabetically with links to topics under them, like an index page?

Or, are you just trying to filter your posts into category pages?

Send a few more details and we’ll help!

    Attn: Supernova;
I used to be able to specify within my (existing) site either “category” or “ tag”as an option for new posts when I built the posts .
Now, with this new format, it offers “tag” and not the option for “category” . Before it allowed either.
If you check my existing website (specified in the support form, but not publicly) you will see past posts were built with a category . I identified the category after building a list.
I built a SEARCH code on the bottom of the site pages so a category could be input and accessed. (Like a widget).
I BUILT the SEARCH categories as a list SO the user could pull up the specialization, (e.g., if you look at my site you will see on the first page a SEARCH button.)
If you enter within the search box, “brain” (example), a category hard coded in the post category will pull up topics for my site related to brain. It was easy. I did not want to build a menu to identify my categories as a list; I already have the SEARCH option to do it.

Do you mean in the editor? The editor still has options to add both categories and tags:

I took that screen shot in the editor for your site, and can scroll through and select any of the available categories you have on that site.

If that’s not working for you, please see if clearing your browser cache or using another browser makes any difference.

Thanks. If I clear the cache will I lose all my prior posts?

I don’t use the editor – where would I find info about it?

  • Hi again! You won’t lose your posts. It just clears our editor’s scripts out of your browser and redownloads them. Want to give that a try?
