Category 9796

Hi there,
I have looked everywhere on the FAQs and Forums but couldnt seem to find an answer (or was blind). Anyhow, I notice that a category “9796” keeps appearing on my category. It’s an emoty category and despite the fact that I’ve set my default “when writing use ___ category”, it always revert to this 9796 when I dont select a category when posting. When I delete it, it disappears for a while then comes back after a few more posts. WHAT THE HECK IS IT? It’s driving me insane! Please, someone, help me.

Look under options > writing and make sure your “default” category is set to something you have created. I’m starting to get the feeling this occurs when someone deletes “uncategorized” from their category list but does not change their default category to something that does exist.

Thanks for your replies guys. And thanks for making this such an interesting thread, weird penguin fella. Anyhow, I looked it up again just to be safe and I can confirm that my categories are going bonkers. So I have deleted the uncategorised many moons ago but have indeed set the default category to one that I’ve created, in this case, “”Daily whinge and waffle” but mysteriously 9796 keeps appearing. Is it a ghost in the system? a Virtual poltergeist! Ai Carumba
