Category and archive pages

    Hi.

I’m putting together my site using wordpress. Currently on my home page I have ‘latest posts’ listed and hotlinks to 3 pages (assigned by category). The same links are in my header, so Home, Cars(page1), Pets(page2), Other(page3).

I want these three pages to be archive listings of each post related to their categories.

I have the category settings working so each page does post only the correct category.

But, and here’s where I need help, these are just single pages with a limited number of post possible per page. I want it to continually archive every post in the category so all historic posts are accessible. Possibly even filterable by tag by the user – so they could be on the ‘Cars’ page, but only want posts with videos, so they can click the videos tag and be shown the appropriate posts.

What is the best way to go about this? The archive widget system doesn’t seem appropriate. Just adding numbered pages would be ok but I don’t know how to achieve that.

  • Hi there – I don’t see that you have any sites on this account that are hosted here at WordPress.com. Could you pass me the URL of the site you are working on?

It’s possible the site you are working on is hosted elsewhere, which means we would then need to direct you to other support resources since these forums are for sites hosted at WordPress.com.

We’ll try to help further as soon as we hear back from you. :)

I’m building my site on my NAS using WordPress, so it’s not hosted actually anywhere yet.

  • In that case you’re using the open source WordPress software. For help with that version of WordPress, please ask the WordPress.org community at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

In the forum you’re posting now we can only help with sites that are hosted on WordPress.com.
