Category Archives

I am having trouble with category archives.
http://sportsliteracy.wordpress.com/
When you click on one of my categories, you are immediately taken to an archives page instead of going to the actual post.
For instance, if you click on “Baseball” under “Sports-related Literature for Teens” then you immediately see the archives page.
I don’t want to see this archives page because I only have one post per category.
Somehow, when I created one of my most recent posts, “Cycling,” I did something right, and the archives page does not show up. Instead, WordPress takes you directly to the post, which is what I want.
How can I make sure this occurs under every category? Or, in other words, how can I make sure that when a viewer clicks on a category, s/he is taken directly to the post?
Thanks for your help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Well, that’s how categories work. If you want to use categories and NOT have them link to the category page, well, you are asking the impossible. If you do not want viewers to be taken to the category page, do not use any categories other than “Uncategorized.” Why are you using categories if you do not want them to behave as categories?

What you also might want to try is making your posts part of a “custom menu” and the adding that menu as a widget.
This way, it sort of “looks” like your category list but will take you directly to the post/page as you want: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ and http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/custom-menu-widget/.
Hope that helps! :)

Mindy,
Great suggestion, but I’m afraid I still cannot make it work either as a sidebar or within subgroups of new posts at the top of the page. I appreciate your helpful feedback, though. I just can’t figure out how I was able to get cycling to do what I wanted it to do, but not the others. I’ll keep trying.
Raincoaster,
If all you can offer are condescending remarks, why even bother?
However, if you actually care to know, I created the blog about five years ago before I really knew what I wanted to do with the space and, obviously, before I knew what I was doing in the first place. I have kept adding to it all these years. I suppose we cannot all be as accomplished as you at using WordPress.
Best,
Alan

You might want to play around with a couple of different templates…you might find one that works the way you want.
Sorry it didn’t work!

If you wait five years before finding out how your blog works for the readers, you have to take responsibility for that.

All of my ‘Month’ Archives, prior to ‘Mar, April & May of 2014’ have disappeared? How can I have all of my ‘Archive Months’ listed? – Thank you.

Hi “CV”
You might want to take a look at these two links…they should help you with that you’re trying to accomplish. :)
This is for the archive widget: http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/archives-widget/
This is to put the archive shortcode in either a post/page of your site or in a Text Widget: http://en.support.wordpress.com/archives-shortcode/
Hope that helps. :)
