Category automatically being added..

  I’ve noticed something odd. I had changed the name of the default category which is ‘uncategorized’ to ‘default’. But a day or so later I noticed that a new category called ‘1’ was created somehow. I deleted this but later I got it back again. No matter how many times I delete it it returns. I find this quite bizarre. Not sure how to get rid of it. Thanks is advance for any help offered.
