Category counts the same as tag?

  • Unknown's avatar

I make a new post, fill the categories, but it automatically links it to tags. here’s an example :

    Title : Helloworld

    lorem ipsum lorem ipsum

    Posted in : info, misc.

The links for info and misc would be like this : http://wordpress.com/tag/info/ , /misc/
I thought it was supposed to be yourblog.wordpress.com/category/info/
Am I wrong? is there any way to fix this?
    Thank you!

  • All WordPress.com blogs link the tags and categories to the global tag listings if you have your blog set to public.

When WordPress introduced the global tags pages a long time ago, there were only categories for us to use. That was when the confusion started. For all intents and purposes, tags and categories are the same when it comes to search engines and the global tags pages, but due to how they are done here, they allow more ways for you to identify or “categorize” your posts. You have categories, which provides broad classification and tags, which can be thought of really as subcategories to further refine your classifications. Example: Category food and tag pasta.

The difference between tags and categories

The other thing to remember is that the category and tags links at the posts (above or below) lead to the WordPress global tags pages. The category and tag links in the category widget and tag cloud widget in your sidebar lead to only your blog posts.
