Category Descriptions Not Working

My students are trying to update the category descriptions on https://clarkwp.wordpress.com/ and the descriptions will not save. We are using the 2014 Theme. I switched Themes and got one category description to post, then the next two would not. I type things in and update and it’s blank. My students are doing this as well and getting the same results.
We’ve also switched browsers – nothing better than throwing a troubleshooting problem in front of 20 college students. LOL!
It is hit and miss and it should be consistent. Thanks!

Which of the categories are you having problems with? I took a look and it appears that most of your categories already have descriptions. Were you trying to edit existing category descriptions or add descriptions to some categories (or did it suddenly start working)?

It works, it doesn’t work…the ones that are blank on that site are ones that we couldn’t get to work.
This has happened before but then it starts working. Last night was a nightmare with multiple students trying this via multiple types of browsers, logins, etc. We changed Themes and it worked, which is how we got some of the category descriptions in, but the students have chosen to work with 2014, and we had to flip it back, so I think it might be Theme related, but that makes zero sense.
I just tried it on my office computer (the school is 30 miles away) and I can’t get the “Under the Hood” category description to save.
Ideas? Thanks.

Ideas? Oh, I have ideas when there are come and go things happening like this weirdness but I’m sorry because none are helpful. Forgive me for being lighthearted please, Lorelle. What you describe would drive me up a wall. I hope the cause and fix are nailed down real soon.

LOL! Oh, me, too. Hopefully the appropriately nicknamed amightwp might find an answer, though this one makes little sense to me.
I’m sure it has something to do with the database, possibly some issue with the taxonomies, category and tag data updating…though why it should work on one Theme and not 2014… it will boil down to something to do with the database I’m sure. It is the database entry for the category description in the taxonomy table that isn’t holding…it’s a core function and has nothing to do with the Theme.

You’re 100% right that it is a core function and it shouldn’t have anything to do with the theme that you’ve chosen.
It’s a longshot, but let me ask: when you were making these attempts (even when you tried to update later) is it possible that one or more of your students were trying to make updates at the same time? We eventually had to implement post locking because of issues like this on posts and pages. If everyone was in the categories section at the same time it could be a similar issue.
