Category dilemma
-
I can’t find any discussion on a problem I’m having with Categories.
I started a second of just two categories. I want each category to contain different posts, according to topic. The most recent post appears under BOTH categories.
Each new post replaces the previous one, in the new category. There’s always just the one post, but it’s not the one meant to be there. It looks like this:
MUSINGS (Category 1)
The Level Field Fund (most recent post)
Telluride, CO World Cup
World Cup #2 – results
Updated – Finals brackets and results, Arlberg
Lech am Arlberg startlistWHAT IS ‘SNOWBOARDCROSS’? (Category 2)
The Level Field Fund (most recent post, but just one much older post should live here permanently)The right Category check boxes are clicked. What’s wrong?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The widget at the top of your sidebar is NOT a categories widget. It is a “recent posts” widget and will show the X number of recent posts in reverse chronological order from ALL categories.
To get to the actual categories pages, you have to put the actual categories widget into the sidebar. It will show a listing of all your categories. When someone clicks on a category name, they will be presented with a listing of all posts in that particular category.

Widgets » Categories Widge -
You do not enter or edit categories in the categories widget. It only displays the data gained from the Categories you assign to posts that you have published. Unless or until you assign each category to a post and publish it there is no data for the categories widget to display. Please see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/

On the topic of categories – Is it possible to have an image rather than text, or image and text, for a category? I know wordpress.org had something like it (visible here:http://wordpress.org/support/topic/image-depending-on-catagory) and i’d love to incorporate it into my site.

Images are not a Categories feature. They may be possible if you purchase a CSS upgrade but I don’t know that for sure. WordPress.com gas provided a “preview” function do you can try before you buy here > Appearance > Edit CSS

I believe I already purchased a CSS upgrade for the blog I want to utilize this for (blog.hcfama.org). Would this replace the text categories that we have, or even go along side it? In the CSS, what could I use to make the feature work that particular way.

As I stated above: “They may be possible if you purchase a CSS upgrade but I don’t know that for sure. “
There are only two Volunteers who help with CSS editing and neither one appears to be signed in and posting to the forum at this time.

Will you please start a new thread in the CSS forum for your issue? Click here to do that > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customizationThe CSS editing will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but it does not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes here at wordpress.COM.
