Category Has No "Delete" Option
-
Hey there,
For some reason, one of the categories on my blog will not delete – it shows no box to the left of it (where one could possibly delete it, etc) and I only can change the name of it.
I thought it was because it was a parent category and had a few categories under it, so I moved the categories out and am faced with the same problem – no checkbox.
I then went to the “posts” section and tried removing that category from certain posts but couldn’t figure out how to delete certain categories from posts … I can add categories to posts, but can’t delete them.
If you have any ideas or suggestions, or if I’m not making enough sense, let me know – I wish I could’ve provided a screenshot, but can’t, unfortunately.
Thank you!

You can’t delete your default category, which is more than likely the case here.
Just assign any other category as your default, and you should be able to delete this one.

ahh, ok – that makes sense. That’s probably the reason.
Could you let me know how to make a category the default one?

See here for instructions for setting another category as the default category > setting the default category > http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/#setting-the-default-category

sorry, I actually have one more follow-up question if that’s ok:
How to you de-select a category from a post? I know that sounds confusing so let me try to throw out a hypothetical:
Say, if we have category A and category B, and both of them are linked to the same post, how could we get de-link category B from that post?
Hopefully that’s not too confusing …
