Category Hierarchy and HTML Editor Questions
-
Hi I’m new to WordPress and have some questions.
If you have a category hierarchy like these:
A
-aB
-b1
–b2and you put a post in category b2, would the post show up in categories b1 and B? If you add the same post to a, would it show up in A as well?
Also what does this mean?
<*a name=”TOP”*>When it is put before text in the html editor(without asterisks), the text brightens when I mouse over it in my blog. In the Visual Editor, an anchor appears before the text.

I think it’s extremely important to understand that we can only post to one page in a blog. When we assign categories and/or tags to our posts and publish them they do automatically appear on categories and tags pages as well as in the archives too, but it’s of critical importance to understand that we do NOT post into categories, and we can only post to a single running page for posts. It’s usually the front page but we change change that to another one here > Settings > Reading
Now here’s the good news. Previous to the introduction of “menus” only static pages displayed in our site’s navigation bar. Now we can mix pages, categories, and random links in our navigation instead of being restricted to what our theme supplied. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
Once you clearly comprehend the differences between pages and posts you can choose to restructure your blog by use of the custom menu feature in some themes like the one you are using called Twenty Ten.
Appearance > Menus
http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/To gain insight into how categories and sub-categories can be arranged in hierarchical structure be mindful that the custom menu feature provides an opportunity to create a hierarchical structure when creating a custom menu.
If you have parent and child categories (subcategories within your main categories) you can choose to display the hierarchy or just leave the list “flat”, without indication of which subcategories fit inside your main categories. For instance, let’s say I have a category Cooking, and within that Indian Food, Mexican Food, and French Food – I can choose to display them all mixed up with the other categories or have the different national cuisines grouped UNDER my main cooking category with indentation.
I hope this helps and just in case you need more help with creating a custom menu I believe this post may be also be useful. > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/06/17/custom-menus-arrive-at-wordpress-com/
