Category ID in a wordpress.com-site

I’m trying to get the ID from a category on my site on xxxx.wordpress.com .
The problem is that I have a Category Cloud where you can deselect categories by entering their ‘Category ID’ in the Exclude field.
I just can’t see the category ID anywhere in the setup – either by mouse-over or by selecting and checking the URL.
If you click on the category in question, the name appears in the URL – not the ID.
And it does not work to enter the name in the Exclude field.
I have searched for options to find ID on categories, but the solutions all point to the local installations of WordPress.
But I think that when the feature is found in a wordpress.com installation, it must also be possible.
I have googled everything imaginable, without success.
Does anyone know what to do? -
Hi there,
so you need to hover over posts and click categories. This will take you to a list of the current categories you have. Click into one and you’ll get a big ol URL that looks like this
WHEW! A lot to digest there. But what you’re interested in is the part that says
taxonomy=category&tag_ID=1
So for this category the category ID is 1

I knew that – but it was not visible in the URL or when I hovered the mouse.But now it’s solved!
It turned out, that a newly created site under x.wordpress.com is by default set up to run in ‘simple mode’ where all that advanced stuff was hidden.
You can select “Show wp-admin pages if available” under “Account Settings” > “Dashboard appearance”.
When I turned it on, the dashboard became ‘Advanced’ – and it was possible to see the category ID.
