Category Link Only to my site

  • Unknown's avatar

The links under my blog posts that say stuff like “Filed under: Computers, Finance, Shopping, Technology” contain links to http://en.wordpress.com/tag/computers/. Is there a way to make these links go to only my sites category such as http://mshnitzer.wordpress.com/category/technology/computers/

    Thanks for your help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can go to settings > privacy and check either the second option, to block search engines, or the third option to set the blog to private. With private you can invite up to 35 users to view your blog (they will have to have or get a wordpress.COM account (no blog) in order to view your blog.

With the new iNove theme under appearance > iNove theme options you can turn the post display of tags and categories off, but that is the only theme with that option.

    Thank you for your response.

I don’t think I mean to restrict the privacy of the site. What I am trying to do is set the tags and categories on my posts to link only to the tags and categories on my site not on wordpress.com as a whole.

For example, the category computers on my site under the header for “Filed Under:” now links to

    http://en.wordpress.com/tag/computers/

but the category listing on the right side of the site links to

    http://mshnitzer.wordpress.com/category/technology/computers/

Is there a way for me to get the “Filed Under” link to go to http://mshnitzer.wordpress.com instead of http://en.wordpress.com?

has got to do with blog roll?
    Sorry probably stupid question…

Categories and tags under or over the posts link to the global tags pages. Many people here get quite a number of hits off the tags pages, and because they have such high page rank with the search engines, having your posts appear on those pages increase your blog’s page rank.

There is no way to change it so this other than the privacy settings I suggested, or by using the iNove theme and turning the tags/categories display off.

WordPress.com has carefully designed it to function this way. It’s giving you a huge boost with search engine visibility, but you’re right; it’s a tradeoff and counter-intuitive.

you COULD turn off category links using iNove and then by hand make links to your LOCAL category pages at the bottom of each post. If you iknow how to change the size of text, you can even make them tiny, so they look like a built-in part of the theme.

That’s really annoying – people are going to get very confused when they read my site and click on a tag like this!

At the moment they do link to a local tag listing, does this mean that once it goes live, all those tags are going to change?

    yes.

These privacy options will have tags below (or above) a post link only to the site itself:
I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors
I would like my blog to be visible only to users I choose

Once you choose the public/search engine option then those tags and cats will link to wp global links:
I would like my blog to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Sphere, Technorati) and archivers
