Category not pulling through all posts in a category
-
I always add many relevant categories to my posts over at Diff Graff and on this post in particular I have included the artist’s name ‘Colour Doomed’
One of my Menus is a ‘category’ menu where you can click on ‘Colour Doomed’ and it will bring up all the posts Ive tagged with the category ‘Colour Doomed’
For some reason the post on the link below will not appear in the category list!
This is the category link below:-
https://diffgraff.wordpress.com/category/artists/colour-doomed/Can anyone shed any light on why this one link will not show up within the category listing?
Thanks,
Lee.

Please click the “older posts” button on the bottom of this page https://diffgraff.wordpress.com/category/artists/colour-doomed/

You have both of these tags assigned to that post:
Tags: cardiff, city road, colour doomed, colourdoomed, gremlin alley, roath, street art -
had a look at the Settings – Dashboard – Reading and its currently set at 25.
There are currently less than that in that category but Ive changed it to 30 just to see if it reappears and it hasnt!
Also the infinite scroll says
“To infinity and beyond We’ve changed this option to a click-to-scroll version for you since you have footer widgets in Appearance → Widgets, or your theme uses click-to-scroll as the default behavior.”Ive always had to click a button to reveal more posts all the time as a setting per the theme!
Thanks for reading and helping.

When you assign to tags like colour doomed, colourdoomed you are tag spamming AKA as spamdexing and search engines do not smile on such a practice. Also note that as categories and tags are one in the same to search iengines they also do not smile on the practice of assigning the same key words and/or keyword phrases as both categories and tags. As you have tagged this thread for Staff they will respond with more information as soon as they work their way forward to this thread.

Yes there are keyword tags, which are ‘colourdoomed’ and ‘colour doomed’ (one with a space and one without a space)
which links to
https://diffgraff.wordpress.com/tag/colour-doomed-2/
and
https://diffgraff.wordpress.com/tag/colourdoomed/But I try and use the whole site with category tags – so whenever I create a new post for a certain artists I can just pull it down in the category menu and add it without typing.
So the category tag isnt pulling through this specific post for some reason – which is located at the top of each post. (I categorise each post with a location and artist(s) or event as its easier than retyping the keyword tags each time!)
https://diffgraff.wordpress.com/category/artists/colour-doomed/Thanks for assisting – but I just cant seem to work out why for this one post!

Ah Ive just managed to work out what it was!
Due to me ‘sticking the post to front page’ it then will not show in any other part of the theme!
Ive just unstuck it from the front and its now appeared!
That’s silly as I’d like it to appear wherever it needs to be PLUS stuck to the front if I so wish!
Ah well at least we now know why it wouldnt appear but maybe the code needs changing ever so slightly to make it appear in other places too.
Thanks for helping me along the way.

That sounds weird to me. I want Staff to way in on this sticky post designation bit because I do not think it ought to make a difference in terms of tag page display.
-
I agree – it shouldnt make a difference – but it did!
I do only try and make 5 sticky but sometimes the odd old one does slip through the system.
Thanks again.
PS Love this theme – ive had it for a few years now and not found any better ones – time for me to upgrade to anything more flexible?
-
I see that you “unsticked” that post.
So, let’s take “Made in Roath 2015” instead, as an example of a sticky post.
It’s assigned to two categories, and the post appears on each of the category pages:
https://diffgraff.wordpress.com/category/locations/cardiff-locations/
https://diffgraff.wordpress.com/category/artists/spk/Can you try making the post you mention — https://diffgraff.wordpress.com/2013/11/26/colour-doomed-pointing-man/ — sticky again? That way, I can have a closer look at whether there’s something peculiar about this post in particular.
-
Apologies Chris ive been out since my previous post.
Ive now made the above post ‘sticky’ again.
Hoepfully you can see that it doesnt appear in either of the categories that it should appear in now!
Thanks,
Lee.

I’m able to see it on both category pages. Keep in mind that the post was published in November 26, 2013 — and will appear in chronological order with the other posts. The “sticky” status doesn’t apply to category pages.

Hi Chris,
Just to say I’ve looked and maybe the post didnt update properly and wasnt actually a sticky post! So Ive double checked and its most definately stuck now!
I appreciate that its an old post published 2 years ago but surely all posts within a certain category should pull through under that category regardless of 1)whether its an old post or 2) its a sticky post.
Looking at either
https://diffgraff.wordpress.com/category/artists/colour-doomed
or https://diffgraff.wordpress.com/category/artists/colour-doomed/page/2/I am unable to see the following post which is now a sticky post.
https://diffgraff.wordpress.com/2013/11/26/colour-doomed-pointing-man/Thanks for reading and investigating.

Interestingly if you visit via:-
https://diffgraff.wordpress.com/category/artists/colour-doomed
and scroll down it obviously doesn’t appear in first portion of displayed posts due to the date being old but when you click ‘older posts’ to reveal the older posts it still doesn’t appear either but what does change is the url – which changes to https://diffgraff.wordpress.com/category/artists/colour-doomed/page/2/
Cutting and pasting and entering straight via that url and it DOES appear where it should appear in the list!
So to recap using the scrolling method its missing but going via the /page/2/ url works!
Very strange!
