Category not shown under blogpost and related posts not shown

    Hi,
I am using the Yoko theme but the category linked to a specific post does not show under a post ( the tags are showing ).
For example: this should show under a post : Categories: Artwork, Photos, Writing | Tags: panache | Permalink.
In my case only the Tags are visible.
The related posts option which I activated in the settings do not show either. Does anyone know where the related posts are based on?
I created three test post with the same categories and tags and the related posts are not showing at all.

    Thanks in advance for helping!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. The related posts feature will only start working once you have ten posts of 100 words or more. So, it will appear once you’ve published enough posts. The feature doesn’t work on tags alone, but actually scans the content of your posts for related key words, and is completely automatic – there’s no way to control which posts are shown. https://en.support.wordpress.com/related-posts/#requirements

For the categories, go to the WP-Admin dashboard and click on Settings ->Reading. In the Enhanced Feeds section, make sure you have Categories selected. https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/reading-settings/#enhanced-feeds It might not update until you create a new post.

Hi, thank you so much for your quick response.

I understand that the related post feature will only appear once I will have more than 10 posts. I just created more than 10 test posts but the feature does not appear. Does it take a while for it to appear?

However, the settings for enhanced feed were all ticked but only the Tags appeared under the post.
I notice now that the category is shown under the posts, after unticking the boxes, saving the settings and changing it back again. which is a bit confusing. I also tried to change my template and noticed that some templates showed the category and some templates did not show the category under the post. I’m just wondering if I can rely on the template now.

Why are you trying to force this? Creating random and duplicate posts won’t make this work. Just create regular posts on your regular posting schedule and the related posts will start appearing once there are enough posts to show. You can’t force it to work like you’re trying to do.

If you read the support doc I had linked above you would have seen that it says this setting doesn’t update immediately. It has nothing to do with your theme, but with how RSS feeds on WordPress.com works. It is true that some themes don’t show this information, regardless of the settings, but your theme does. You can also see it displaying the categories on the Yoko demo page: http://yokodemo.wordpress.com/

I was just trying to figure out why my theme did not work properly when the features were all initially correctly set. I noticed that these features were displayed correctly in the Yoko demo page so I assumed they would also work for my blog straight away.
I will start using my blog and see what happens.
Thank you for your help and explanation.

  • Your theme is working perfectly, from what I see when I view your site, so you don’t need to worry about that.

There features are not theme-related, but more with how WordPress.com itself works. You would experience the same regardless of which theme you’re using. Once you’ve created enough content it will sort itself out.
