‘category’ page bug, when a post is deleted

I deleted a recent post that was in a Category. The page for that Category retained traces of the post: said “posted in Uncategorized” (at [time]?)

When I re-edited and saved an older post in the same Category, the Category page became ok (no longer had traces of the deleted post).

    I know. It is wierd.

I also have this kind of problem. I use Windows Live Writer and this morning a post couldn’t be posted several times for some server failure reason. Then I found out it was actually posted 4 times. So I deleted 3 identical posts and left only one. It was filed under two categories (one – parent, another – its sub-category. But both parent and sub-category in my blog side panel show the wrong number of posts (one more than there actually are). Though when you click on the category name you can see that there is only one post in the sub-category, not 2 like the side panel shows. Numerous refreshings and logouts-logins do not seem to alter anything. Plus I checked “Uncategorised” categoty and it doesn’t contain any trace of extra posts, so seems to be the problem with the side panel category stats.

I had a similar problem just now with Windows Live Writer: a post couldn’t be posted several times for some server failure reason. Then I found out it was actually posted 4 times — well 3 times in my case. I sent up an empty post called “Test” from Live Writer then, just to see what happened.

When I came on to WordPress I went to “manage” to delete it. It would delete, but the deletion came up red. When I reloaded the manage page the post had come back. This happened a number of times. I finally did some lateral thinking, hit edit, changed the title and category, and added a sentence of content in the text box. I hit “publish”, and it published. I came back to the manage posts page and deleted it — smoothly this time.

I just sent another one via Live Writer and got an Invalid Server Response warning saying “The response to the metaWeblog.newPost method received from the weblog server was invalid: Invalid response document returned from XmlRpc server.” The post published OK nonetheless.

I changed template from Unsleepable to Simpla and this seems to have resolved the problem — perhaps that was it, a template issue.

No, still happening: “The response to the metaWeblog.newPost method received from the weblog server was invalid:

Invalid response document returned from XmlRpc server.”

But only on http://ninglun.wordpress.com/ not on my other blogs.

Same problem here on my main blog, not using Live Writer though. I’ve clicked delete a few times, sometimes it reloads the original post, then it goes back to a blank one, but it’s still there.

It keeps happening with Live Writer for no apparent reason. Started 2 days ago. Now anything I post (except one “Test” page) is said to “have some server problem” (quoted above by other users). But the post is actually posted. And I had trouble deleting (for example “Test” post”) when the deleted post appears again in red and under “Uncategorised”. It is not shown in full text in the blog, but there is either “0” in “Recent Posts” or/and “Uncategorised (1)” for a day or two before it disappears from the blog on its own.

The problem is definitely with WordPress, not with Live Writer, as it is the server that returns the failure-notice, plus the deletion bug is in WordPress, not in WLW.

I agree, andyash. There does seem to be a bug at the WP end.

I would report this as a bug to staff when Support reopens.

“The response to the metaWeblog.newPost method received from the weblog server was invalid: Invalid response document returned from XmlRpc server” is happening now on one of my other blogs: http://neilwhitfield.wordpress.com/ The post (sent from Live Writer) nonetheless posted successfully.

  • The bug causing invalid response to metaWeblog.newPost queries has been found and fixed.

Thanks. It all worked smoothly just now.
