Category Pages in Sketch Theme

I’m trying to create a category menu that will appear across the top of my page in the Sketch theme, as shown in the demo.
First I created pages and got them to appear across the top of the page, just as in the demo. (That is the style I want.) Then I realized what I should have done was to create a menu, create categories, and add them to the menu. So I did that, but now I’m not getting them stretched out across the top. Instead, to see them, you have to click on a little menu icon and then they drop down vertically, aligned to the left. This isn’t what I was hoping for. Also, now when I went back and tried to create pages in the Page section again, just for the heck of it, the pages didn’t show up. (The menu icon stays there.) Is there any way I can get category pages to appear like the pages do in the demo (where it says Portfolio, Clients, Blog, About Us, etc.)? Thanks!

Also, it’s showing full-width, even with stuff in the sidebar, but I’d like it to show the gray background.

I think the menu icon is appearing because you have too many menu items. But at the moment I can’t see any menu on melikewords.wordpress.com so I wonder if this is the site you need help with?
Could you try to reduce the items on your menu? You can do this in 2 ways: [1] Have only fewer pages [2] Remove the pages from the menu in Appearance > Menus screen.
Please try this and let me know how it goes.

Thanks so much for your response, chaitanyamsv. Sorry, I was trying absolutely everything last night, including deleting all menus and pages, switching to a different theme and then reactivating Sketch, etc. That’s why you didn’t end up seeing menus. I’ve now created a Categories Menu of just two things, to keep it short, but it’s still giving me that menu icon instead of spread out. I saw you helped someone else with a very similar question just a few days ago, and you told her it had to do with the size of browser screen.

Funny thing is, when I view her site on this same computer/browser, her menu is spread out. Mine is still in that icon. :-/ If worse comes to worse, I guess I could do Categories in the sidebar, but I’d rather not, and I’d still want a few Pages. But at this point, even the Pages are stuck under that icon. (I don’t have any Pages published right now, but I can, if that helps.) Thanks again. -
