Category pages not showing posts tagged for them

  I understand how the menu works and setting it up to have categories instead of pages and then tagging each post in the respective category I want it to show up in. I did that. My theme only supports one menu so its automatically the primary and I’ve checked the box to display it at the top. I can click on each of the categories in the menu, but when it opens the page for it, it says nothing was found there. If anyone knows how to fix this pls let me know!
