Category Problems

Hey folks, I need help. I originally converted my “categories to tags” and now have a nice “tag cloud.” However, my dashboard for some reason is not allowing me to convert the “default numeric” category into a real category. Not that this would help, because I cannot figure out how to make categories anyway. I have mad up names, and yet they do not show up on my sidebar. I have gone to the widget section, and added a category, and when I attach a category to my post. The category goes under every widget. Help!! LOL! I have looked through the forums, and watched the videos, etc…but they don’t seem to help. I just want to make categories on the sidebar. Simply and easily. My WP site: http://erictyoung.com/

    1. You can create zillions of here > Dashboard > Categories but the Categories widget has no data to display unless and until you publish a post which you have assigned a specific category to. You can delete and edit Categories on that same Page.

    2. If you have created posts you now want to add Categories to then you will have to edit them and assign the categories when you do that. To access the Edit Posts screen, click Posts->Edit in your dashboard menu.

    3. Assigning Categories to posts http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-categories/ and managing Categories http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/category-management/ Editing posts

    4. The Categories widgets are all clones. Using more than one makes little sense as they all display the same data.
