I’ve not been able as yet to try my laptop using a different internet connection, so this morning I did a reset with my modem at home. It made no difference as the pages still hang. thesacredpath, I noticed in your reply that you’re using a Mac, I’m using windows laptops, I wonder if that makes a difference? Although I think not as its still not showing the Twitter numbers on my Ipad.

    Good Morning TheSacredPath,

As of this morning, it appears to be working fine on our two sites.

Note: Running Windows OS and Chrome Browser

After reading the reply from johnnadeau11 I tried again, for about 5 minutes pages were loading ok, but now they’ve gone back to hanging again. So still not resolved for me unfortunately.

    @RetroRacers

For your reference/troubleshooting, I “just” checked both of our sites at 9:55am EST and they are not having the problem.

You know, with the way those CDN’s work, I wonder if you’re being directed to a slow/bad server from time/to/time, hence the randomness?

My problem still exists, and the page loads take about 5 minutes. I know that this thread has been moved to the Support forum, but I can’t find it. If a link exists to the new thread, please share it here.

The problem appeared to have cleared up for me earlier this week when I updated Chrome, but it’s back now. If you support guys would like an example, you can take a look at my site at:

    Thanks,
    Tori

My mistake about the thread – I guess we are already in the Support forum so obviously no link to the thread is needed.

FYI, for a brief minute my issue seemed to be resolved, but 10 minutes later it is back to the same behavior. I can replicate my issue on every machine that I try: OSX (all browsers), Chromebook, Windows 8 (Firefox, Chrome). Page load times are all about 5 mins.

Hi everyone, a track ticket has been submitted on this issue, but as of right now, no one here has been able to reproduce the issue. We are still looking at things and hopefully we will be able to track down where the delay is occurring.

    Hang in there.

  • Unknown's avatar

@thesacredpath – thank you for posting an update. When you mention that the issue cannot be reproduced, are you saying that the sites reporting the problem are loading without issue on your side? Fortunately, my site is working fine as of 6:02pm CDT after not working for most of the day. If anyone posts about the delay again, it would be interesting to know if WordPress support can check that site within a few minutes of the post that reports the issue.

@harristl, I just happened to notice that the site you reference is self-hosted. It looks like you are using Jetpack on your site and Jetpack for self-hosted sites has its own support at http://jetpack.me/support/ .

For what it’s worth I’ve been having same issue. Spoke to a lovely Happiness Engineer yesterday who couldn’t find problem with the site. Today I noticed the ‘waiting for cdn.api twitter’ message as well as the wheel of death. I’ve deleted my social media buttons from widgets but left them turned on for individual posts and the issue seems to have improved. I still get the ‘waiting for cdn.api twitter’ message but the actual pages load within a few seconds – before the individual posts were loading fine but the home and category pages were typically not loading at all – even after about 6 minutes. Issue only started recently. Just wanted to add this here in case helps anyone else as a temp fix while twitter resolves whatever the problem might be from that end.

Eugh. I spoke to soon. Still not working.

  • Unknown's avatar

thesacredpath, Thanks for all your help, as you say we’ll, Hang in there and see if it can be resolved.

  • Unknown's avatar

@taumann, three of us have tried to reproduce the issue on a number of the sites in this thread and it has always worked fine with no hangups or delays. If we can reproduce it, we hope to be able to figure out where the delay is coming from.

@TheSacredPath…. could this be a result of the way CDN’s work?

i.e. You’re not seeing the problem, but maybe you’re hitting a different server because of your location. Whereas those of us that are seeing the problem might be hitting a different server? If this is the case, then it’s likely all at Twitter’s doorstep to resolve?

  • Unknown's avatar

If it may make a difference, my ISP is Comcast (near Chicago area). Are others with the issue on Comcast, and might this be a possible cuase of the issue too?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi all, our developers have looked into this and unfortunately this isn’t something that we can fix. The delay is on Twitter’s end. We make the call and then have to wait for their servers to respond to our call and send us the data.

If you are more concerned with the hang in loading of your site than with having Twitter sharing on your site, you can, at least for now, remove the Twitter sharing button. You can then add it back in later and see if things have improved.

I’m in UK, on Virgin Media, if that’s relevant. But one of the other people who told me she couldn’t get onto my site is in the US. No idea what network though. Sorry. Thanks @TheSacredPath and everyone else for help on this one.

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m in the UK too, using Sky broadband. thesacredpath thanks for spending so much time looking into it. It’s appreciated.

For me, I don’t know even know what Twitter feature is causing this. I would absolutely turn something off if I knew the source. My issue is occurring only on my main/index page, which displays the blog excerpts, and I only have a static link to a Twitter account.
