Centering Thumbnail Pictures Gateway Theme

On my homepage when I upload my featured content and the featured image for that featured content, the featured image when shown on my homepage does not center and chops off part of the picture. It makes for a pretty unsightly format. I googled my problem and it pointed to issues with the CSS but I am a little technically challenged need specific help!
If anybody has had this problem or knows how to help it would be so great if you could give me step by step instructions.

Hi there, the images shown in the feature posts area on the main page are square, so on rectangular images, there will be some cropping. Since the software creates the image file it is going to use from your original, we can’t really change the sizes of them with CSS, but if you keep in mind that the images are created with a center crop, you can prepare your images with that in mind and keep the important parts in the center of them. It may be best to create them in a square format and that way you have more control over the image and what is shown on it. I would suggest something about 800px square, that way the images will show well on smaller devices which have very high resolution screens, such as iPhones and iPads.
