Certain photos do not display on mobile devices
-
Certain photos in my blog posts that display just fine in PC-based web browsers do not display on mobile devices. Instead, a “missing image” icon is displayed. I’ve tried this with both Chrome and Firefox on my smartphone, beginning with total cache clears (also my tablet and my wife’s smartphone as a sanity check, same deal).
Here’s an example…
Visit the blog post below use the browser’s “Find” function to copy/paste and search for this string:
“Sennheiser e902 internal kick drum microphone”
There should be two images directly above that caption, but on smartphones only the bottom one displays.
For another example in the same post, search for:
“Sub-kick microphone cabinet positioning”
There should an image directly above that caption, but again it does not display on smartphones.

https://cygnusstudiosblog.wordpress.com/2018/04/25/sub-kick-microphones/Some troubleshooting steps I’ve taken to try and resolve this:
– Re-uploaded the photos in question to my media library.
– Edited the post to delete and re-add the failing image links.
– Tried switching to a different theme.
– On the WP Admin page, verified that the issue exists with “Mobile Theme” in “Appearance > Mobile” both enabled or disabled.
– Searched the web, and found information in various places where disabling Jetpack resolved this same issue. But, I don’t think that plugin is enabled on a free account like mine, correct? At least, I don’t see it on the WP Admin page, where its settings would normally exist. At any rate, none of these steps had any effect on the problem whatsoever.
After troubleshooting, I did a total cache clear on Chrome for Windows, and all images are still present as expected. You can even right click the images and select “Open image in new tab”, and they load right up.
A very strange problem, indeed. Any help or suggestions anyone can offer would be much appreciated!

What are the URLs of the problematic images?

Hi there,
“Sennheiser e902 internal kick drum microphone”
There should be two images directly above that caption, but on smartphones only the bottom one displays.
I see a broken image link on desktop as well:
https://cloudup.com/cQpWLnAFtlu
First example above, from the editor (copy/paste from the HTML):
https://i0.wp.com/cygnusstudiosblog.files.wordpress.com/2018/04/sennheiser-e902.jpgThat link is the problem. Where did you get that link? Or rather, what process exactly are you using to add images to posts?
Image links with the format i*.wp.com/siteURL are from our Photon CDN (content distribution network) which we use to serve images on sites faster – when you add an image to a post we upload copies of the image in various sizes to servers right around the world, and when someone opens your site we load the image file from the server that’s geographically the closest to them.
But that is not the link you should use to insert the image into the post.
That link is only visible if you view the page source or right-click ->Copy image location on an already published image. If you add an image using the Add Media button in the editor it will instead use the media library link for the image, which in this case is https://cygnusstudiosblog.files.wordpress.com/2018/05/sennheiser-e902.jpg
Update the link for the first missing image in your post with that URL and it will load just fine.
It looks like all the images in your posts are using the Photon links, which tells me you manually added them in the HTML rather than using the Add Media button. My advice is to update all of those to use the correct media library URLs instead, as the way you have it now various images are likely to break for people based on their location or the type of device they use to view your site.

Thanks so much for your help kokkieh, that indeed fixed the issue.
It’s really weird that your desktop browser displayed those images as missing when my didn’t, even after trying it with both Chrome and Firefox. As I mentioned earlier, I even completely flushed the cache on both, restarted them, then re-visited the post in question. In both cases, all images displayed just fine.
That aside, I always use the “Add > Media” button to insert images whether I’m on the “Visual” or “HTML” tabs of the editor, so I’m at a loss to explain where those incorrect domain names came from. I certainly did not copy/paste them from elsewhere. I’m also 99% sure that all of the image links were working correctly when viewed on either a PC or mobile device at the time they were written, since I always check new posts using both to ensure everything is in order for my visitors.
I’ll most definitely go through all of my posts and make any required
tag corrections using the “Add > Media” button as I always do, and double-check that the correct domain names are being added. What’s even stranger so far, I’m finding that some of them use the “https://i0.wp.com/” domain name, and others “https://cygnusstudiosblog.files.wordpress.com/”. Again, I’m at a loss to explain how that happened.
At any rate, problem resolved, and I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for this in the future. Thanks again for quickly saving the day!

Sorry, seems the forum editor stripped out part of a sentence because it contained an HTML tag. That sentence should read:
“I’ll most definitely go through all of my posts and make any required “img” tag corrections using the “Add > Media” button as I always do, and double-check that the correct domain names are being added.”
