certificate problem
-
Visitors are told the certificate is invalid, also that the site is http not https.
No problem with the other sitesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi –
Please let me know which site you’re working on. With WordPress.com the SSL is included with domain registrations and free sites like the one you’ve mentioned here.
-
I do not know what SSL is.
The site is called tefillotvetikkun.wordpress.com
The browser says certificate is invalid, whatever that means. Also the address seems to be http not https.
It may say ‘continue anyway’ but some potential visitors will not.It is very difficult to find ‘forums’ in wp, then items disappear after an hour and there are no numbers to get back, and I got here by some accidental fluke. I may not be able to find your reply. But please can you deal with it.
My other sites all have https addresses and no certificate problem. -
The forums do not disappear. Everything you’ve contributed to this forum can be found under your username at this link:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/users/halilac/topics/
If you subscribe to the forum thread you will get post notifications in your email whenever someone writes back.
We will continue to help you in this thread.
How are people going to your site? Did you provide them a link? If so, make sure that link is https not http. Everything on WordPress.com is https by default. Try it yourself. Copy this text tefillotvetikkun.wordpress.com and past it in your browser bar. It will automatically use https to reach the site.
-
I managed to find you.
Copying into the browser bar worked, but copying it into the speed dial of the browser and clicking I get:Invalid certificate
Opera cannot verily the identity oF the server
“www.tefillotvetikkun.wordpress.com, due to a certificate problem. The server could be trying to trick you. would you like to continue to the server? The above is from a screenshot converted to text, unchanged (even the Capital F in oF).
This does not happen with my other sites in the speed dial.

Not exactly. It is simply a set of boxes, which you prepare, and click on one to get the site it represents, instead of having to write in the URL in the bar each time. It is simply a bookmark in a graphic form and is part of the bookmarks. It exists in most browsers including firefox and chrome, but chrome messes up my site so I do not use it. (I do not want to go into that.)
I put the WP login site there to log in, and no problems.
I also put each of my sites as from a visitor there so that I can visit the site as a visitor (no login, and no changing things or editing) once in a while to check that all is OK from a visitor’s point of view.
But that is irrelevant, all it does is to call up the site like any other bookmark, and you saw the message I got, which I have never seen before from any site I have ever visited as far as I can remember. Something is wrong with the certificate, whatever that is, and a message like this will put off a potential visitor. The 4 lines in my last message to you are the message I get, which I put in a paragraph on its own. -
If it just bookmarks your site then make sure that https://tefillotvetikkun.wordpress.com/ is the address that is bookmarked.
-
In a normal browser anyone typing incorrectly “http” or “www” before a WordPress.com site address are seamlessly redirected to the secure “https” address. I’m only guessing but perhaps Speeddial doesn’t do that so you need to make sure you input the correct address in the first place.
-
1. I did check it carefully, the address was correct.
2. Since talking to you I made no changes there.
3. I just checked and it went O.K. without the message!
i.e. it cured itself without my doing anything.
Before posting this I’ll check again with a new window.NO! I just checked and it has come back.
Anyway, it offers to continue if you want (i.e. without the certificate), and if I do it gets there, so the address must be correct.
As I never asked for or received any certificate this must be something that WP does automat(t)ically, which is why I have turned to you. I cannot do anything about it.It is now past my bedtime, I’ll come back here tomorrow to see your reply.

I just realised – the reason it `went away’ was because I was logged in or had not left the browser since I logged in, in which case clicking on the speed dials does not treat me as a visitor but as a site-owner. When I finally checked, I entered the browser again as a second browser and it was still there to a visitor. But it gives the choice to continue.

Hi there,
Glad that you were able to sort this. Feel free to let us know if any other issue arises in relation to this extension.
Thanks,
-
I have NOT sorted it out. The message about an invalid certificate is STILL there. I only thought it was alright because it did not appear when I was logged in, but as a visitor it still comes. It will put a visitor off.
Try it yourself as a visitor.
Please do something about it. I cannot keep wasting time writing these emails. -
Just to clarify, it has NOTHING to do with the speed dial. That is how I entered it, since you asked me, but the message appears just the same if instead of the speed dial I enter it in the URL/search bar above instead of using a bookmark. The problem is with the certificate or something to do with it or how it is used, and is a problem for WP to sort out. It puts visitors off from viewing my site.
I have been working for six months on a massive project to put into this site, including about 70 PDF files, which are finished but being checked (it will take up to a month) and I do not want all this work wasted. Please look into it properly and do something about it. -
Hi there,
There’s nothing wrong with the SSL certificate. Your site is completely secured.
Can you please let us know what web browser and versions are you using? Also, are you using any security extensions for that browser?
-
-
That is an old version of Opera. Can you please upgrade to the latest version (v. 58) and try again?
Also, make sure that neither the built-in ad-block not the VPN are enabled.
-
Answer: Sorry, no I can’t. Opera 58 only works for windows 7 onwards. I have XP and have no intention or desire to update Windows beyond that, whatever happens.
If you have tried with a different browser and not received the message, then it is a fault in my browser and I will have to put up with it. If you have tried and did receive the message then it is not the browser. If you have not tried, please try.
There is nothing for me to do, either there is a fault at WP or the browser. If the latter then nothing can be done, but it means that those who use a different browser will not have the trouble, so I am not worried.
The problem is not what I get but what visitors may get. -
I can’t reproduce the issue using Firefox, Edge or Chrome.
The problem is not what I get but what visitors may get.
I doubt many people are still using XP to access the Interweb in 2019.
-
If you do not get the message, then I do not worry. The matter may be closed. Thank you.
