Chance Homepage to point to a category

  hi all
  I tried to avoid certain posts to be published on my homepage, but i discovered that wordpress.com does not allow this operation. i then created two sub-categories, one generic “blog” and a second specific “una parola al giorno” to group all the topics in two different places, and this worked like a charm… unfortunately, it seems that i cannot link the generic Blog category to be the first shown instead of the standard homepage, and from the menu editor it is possible to have only static pages… am i missing something or is it really wordpress.com so poor in terms of flexibility? It seems to me just a little tiny filtering update, nothing major, but maybe i’m doing something wrong… can someone please point me in the right direction?
