Change account name

    Hello,

    Currently, I have two accounts with WordPress.com as well as Gravatar.com: wrdeleted (fromerly wilransz) and wilwebs. Since I am actually using the latter, and would like to preserve my conservations and subscriptions.

    Because deleting an account has been disabled, it was my intention to rename wilransz to wrdeleted and wilwebs to wilransz. Unfortunately, this does not work.

    Unfortunately, changing the name back from wrdeleted to wilransz – and deactivating wilwebs – does not work either.

    My objective is one account with WordPress.com and Gravatar.com. How can we achieve this?

    Hi Wil,
    I’m making a judgment call on this one and that is that you will need Staff help. I tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. Note there is a backlog so you will have to wait patiently for Staff help.

    Hi timethief,

    Thanks for taking the time to reply to my plea. Happy to learn that you share my assessment.

    And glad to read that you brought this topic to the attention of Staff help. I was under the impression that I had only one route to a solution – the community forums. This is new territory for me, usually it is my helping others with WordPress related topics.

    Anyway, I did subscribe to this thread, so I will have to wait until a staff member finds the time to get back to me.

    Hi there,

    Unfortunately there is no way for deleted usernames to be undeleted. We do not recycle usernames and this is specified during the username change process which you had to agree to.

    Because of this policy, your original username “wilransz” will not be able to be reused. If you have another username you may like to use, you can change wilwebs to that, however it must never have been used before in our system.

    It wasn’t entirely clear if this was also a question of yours, but there is not any way to combine or merge the two accounts together (if that’s something you were asking). You can however go to https://wordpress.com/read while logged in to your deleted account to view what blogs you were subscribed to. You can then resubscribe to them in your active account.

    Since it is not possible to delete WordPress.com accounts, swapping usernames seemed an acceptable workaround to me. Too bad that is not allowed either.

    BTW, I am not a lawyer, but the fact that it is not possible to delete an account seems a serious breach of privacy laws to me.
