Change address of wordpress hosted blog – error
-
Hi,
My blog is supported by WordPress. The URL was originally mummyummygoodness.wordpress.com, then upgraded to mummyummygoodness.com. I want to change the name to cocoandlentil.com. I followed steps 1-6 of WordPress support creating new user for new address.https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/
I was then going to do the site redirect upgrade and upgrade to remove WordPress from the url. However having followed steps 1-6 I now seem to have 2 WordPress sites:
1. The original site is still at https://mummyummygoodness.com but if you then click on home in the menu it brings you to https://mummyummygoodness.wordpress.com, which is called CocoandLentil but has no contents.
2. If you go to https://cocoandlentil.wordpress.com it brings you to mummyummygoodness.com
3. If you go to https://mummyummygoodness.wordpress.com it brings you to CocoandLentil with no contents.
If I log in as mummyummygoodness and go to my blogs, I now have 2. The first is the original blog. It’s still called mummyummygoodness but the address is now showing up as cocoandlentil.wordpress.com. The second is the one with no contents which is called CocoandLentil but the address is mummyummygoodness.wordpress.com.
What I’m trying to achieve is just one site with url changed to cocoandlentil.com but with all my original content from mummyummygoodness.com.
I’d really appreciate any help you can provide as have already asked a few IT people without any success.
Thanks a mil in advance,
Sarah

Hey Sarah,
I researched your issue, and think I’ve figured out what went wrong:
You registered a brand new WordPress.com site called cocoandlentil.wordpress.com, instead of simply adding a new domain name (cocoandlentil.com) to your existing site.
You haven’t yet registered the domain cocoandlentil.com. If you wish to use that domain for your site, you must register it here:
https://wordpress.com/domains/add/mummyummygoodness.com
Once you register this new domain, you will want to make certain that you make cocoandlentil.com the primary domain for your site.
After you’ve added cocoandlentil.com, I can help you with the cancelation, removal, or transfer of mummyummygoodness.com from your account.
You can also utilize, rename, hide, or delete the extraneous site (mummyummygoodness.wordpress.com):
https://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

Hi Robyn,
Thank you so much for your help – I really do appreciate it! I have now registered the new domain and set it up as my primary domain. If one searches cocoandlentil.com it now brings you to my site, with all of the contents. Equally, mummyummygoodness.com also brings you to cocoandlentil.com.
I’m guessing I now need to transfer mummyummygoodness.com to cocoandlentil.com now?
Thank you very much,
Sarah

Hey Sarah!
My pleasure! Happy to help with this.
I’m guessing I now need to transfer mummyummygoodness.com to cocoandlentil.com now?
Both mummyummygoodness.com and cocoandlentil.com are connected to your WordPress.com site, cocoandlentil.wordpress.com/. It’s entirely up to you if you want to keep mummyummygoodness.com connected to this WordPress.com site, or if you want me to transfer it to another site. Let me know!
Many thanks :)

Hi Robyn,
Yes, I would like to transfer mummyummygoodness.com to cocoandlentil.com but if people still search mummyummygoodness.com, I want them redirected to cocoandlentil.com, which seems to be happening at the moment. Otherwise I’m happy to keep mummyummygoodness.com connected to this WordPress.com site as I don’t have any others.
Many thanks again :-)

Hi there!
if people still search mummyummygoodness.com, I want them redirected to cocoandlentil.com, which seems to be happening at the moment.
You don’t have to transfer anything, then!
Both domains are connected to the same WordPress.com site. Since you made cocoandlentil.com your primary domain, then if anyone goes to mummyummygoodness.com, they will be taken to cocoandlentil.com.
You can take a look at your domains here:
https://wordpress.com/my-domainsSounds like everything is all set! If you do have any other questions or concerns, please let us know!
