change API key in self-hosted site for stats plugin

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a self-hosted wordpress site http://daintytime.net and a wordpress hosted site http://passagequilts.wordpress.com. When upgrading to 3.0 and the wpstats plugin on daintytime I was asked for my API key. I used the key for passagequilts.wordpress.com. Now my stats are disabled. There is a link on the stats page that says, “The API key “xxxxxxxx” belongs to the WordPress.com account “passagequilts”. If you want to use a different account, please enter the correct API key”, but the link is inactive and does nothing but reload the same message. I am unable to enter the correct API key or change it through any other means. I have poured over the support info and forums for hours looking for a way to correct this and the information there seems to be wrong. I need help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The support documentation is not correct. I’m having the same issue, and there is no longer a “Stats” link (it’s now called “Blog Stats”) and also there is no place to add a user at the bottom like the support documentation says.

Also, the link to “enter the correct API key” does not work, as the original post points out.

Yep. The “enter the correct API key” link does nothing for me too. I need to fix this. Has anyone figured out how yet?

Im having the same issue worked on it for few hours now. This should not be happening.
I even followed this link and deleted the users. My org site still did not ask for new API number. I get the 400 Bad Request nginx when I click on stats . Far as I can tell by reading lots of post there is not a solution.

Is there away to delete the account I created to get the api key?

I need the answer too :(

Same boat on this. Any help would be awesome.

@daintytime The passagequilts username does not have administrator rights to the WordPress.com Stats for daintytime.net. You must use the original username that first created the stats. When you log in as that username, you can either just use the API Key from that account or go to My Blog > Blog Stats and promote passagequilts to a stats administrator.

@spgwsol Thanks for the tip about the broken link in the stats plugin and about the documentation. For now, you can just press the back button to re-enter the API Key instead of clicking on that link. Also, the documentation about adding another stats user is correct, but you won’t see that option unless you are logged in as the stats administrator user. Make sure you’re logging in with the right username. If you’re not sure which username is the right one, please post your domain and I’ll look it up for you.

@nerelevant You should just use the back button for now until the link can be fixed.

@techsavvyblogger There is not a way to delete the account you created to get the API Key. You need to log in as the account used to originally setup stats and go from there.

To summarize, here are the things you should check to make sure you’re WordPress.com Stats plugin is working properly:

    1. Make sure you are using the latest version of the WordPress.com Stats plugin
    2. Check to make sure you are logging in as the stats administrator user
(usually the original username that first setup the stats plugin)
    3. Verify that the API Key you are entering matches the stats administrator user

    @designsimply

That really answers nothing concerning the real issue.

ie- Hitting back does not let us enter the CORRECT API key.

We need to know how to delete a wrong API key and enter a new one… Anything else is ahhh elementary (latest version of the WordPress.com Stats plugin) etc.

Thanks and waiting for a response, because I cant use the plugin on a Customers site until this Bug is fixed.

    Thanks Again!

    Correction:

Hitting back does not let us enter the CORRECT API key once it has been mistakenly saved.

Sry but I wanted to let you know additionally. I even tried to remove the plugin from my server, then re-uploaded, then re-activated it and it still remembers the wrong API… OMG!!!!

Thanks for any help you can give!
