Change blog to domain name

  I am considering buying a domain name at wordpress.com and just have a couple of questions.
  When I buy the domain name, is it still hosted by WordPress and still has the security looked after?
  Am I still able to edit the blog in exactly the same way as I am doing now?
  Is there any particular thing that could be a potential problem that I should watch out for?
