Change blog URL

Hi there and apologies because this question has been asked a few times already.
I am confused because I am not sure if the others are asking the same thing as me. I have the blog hosted on my own server, not on wordpress and that’s why what I read already doesn’t seem to be the same for me.
I have the blog on: http://www.mydomain.com/wordpress and this works fine but I want to change it to blog.mydomain.com
Is this just pure DNS settings on the server settings (like adding an A record) or is it an IIS redirect issue, or is it a wp_config setting too.
I am not sure if it’s one of the above or a combination of the above.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
