Change boldness of links after clicking
-
Dear Happiness, I would like to increase the “boldness” of my links after clicking. Pages of the top menu only contain links to my articles (like a Table of Contents). Those links become too light (for my taste) after clicking. Can I change this in CSS?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey there !
It is certainly possible to change the font weight, however, can you tell me what theme you’re using so I can test it first ? (Or I can send you a request to see your site if you don’t mind)
-
Wow, francusbob! What speed – thank you op much for responding so fast. My theme is Twenty Twelve; I will surely let you visit my embryonic site (now marked “private”) because it’s not ready to be delivered! Don’t be shocked – send a request.
Another question. I’m trying to get my feet wet with CSS. In Safari, I highlight a link, then Develop>Web Inspector. Now, how can I tell which code lines refer to the thing I underlined? and its “font-weight”? -
Just sent a request, don’t worry I won’t be shocked :P
Exactly, font-weight is the attribute that will specify the weight of the font. It’s always trickier with links ( tags) since you have 4 different events. Here’s a small example (from w3schools) :
/* unvisited link */ a:link { color: #FF0000; } /* visited link */ a:visited { color: #00FF00; } /* mouse over link */ a:hover { color: #FF00FF; } /* selected link */ a:active { color: #0000FF; } -
I can see that the active page is font-weight:bold compared the normal weight of the other items. However, there is no change in the font-weight when hovering, only a change of color.

Please go to, say, Reflections. After you actually click on a link (not just hover), go to that page and return, the link has become way lighter and it stays that way. I think it means to convey “hey, you’ve already been here before.” It feels like a change in weight, rather than color. Am I wrong on that?

I just tried that on Firefox and IE and I don’t see that it is lighter afterward. The active page is bold, and the others are not, these are the only parameters set. You could put everything in the menu in bold if you want using this :
.main-navigation li a { font-weight:bold; } -
Thank you francisbob. Being a newbie, I probably am not using the right words! Or, there is something else going on. I appreciate your efforts and trials. I will continue to work on it; you taught me that the quality I am referring to is “font-weight” – not “boldness”!!
There’s my other question above. How do you tell which CSS code is relevant – after highlighting what you want to investigate on your page and then opening the Web Inspector?
-
No problem ! At first it is a little hard to assimiliate but you get used to it pretty fast !

Oh wow! That is the best comment I have read here for a long time. I want to frame it but I’ll leave that to francisbob to do. -
@timethief
Lol! I won’t mind if you frame it too. Francis is enough, no need to use the bob part ;)
