Change byline text
-
Hi, I’m trying to figure out how to remove the word “written” from the byline in my posts. Haven’t been able to find anything on the topic. The theme is Escutcheon but I can add custom CSS and plugins. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi there!
I see that you’ve added the following CSS code:
.byline { display: none; }But it doesn’t work because it’s currently conflicting with previous CSS code. I was able to come up with a CSS code, but it will hide the entire line (
Written Byand the author name). Because of how the theme is coded, there’s no easy way to target only the word “Written” to remove it.We also no longer provide advanced CSS help, as you can see in our support doc about CSS support. I see that we previously assisted you with CSS on this theme, but going forward, we will no longer be able to offer the same level of support with custom CSS code.
I strongly recommend switching to a block theme, where changes like the one you’re looking to make are much easier to implement and require no CSS code. Because of the way block themes are written, you have access to every aspect of the theme using Site Editor, which lets you customize things like author name and add/remove prefixes as you like, all without needing any custom CSS code.
I understand that changing the theme may be time-consuming, but we’re here to help. You can also take advantage of the Staging Site feature that comes with your Business plan. It will let you create a clone of your site where you can change the theme, experiment with different ones, customize them, and when ready, sync the changes back to the production site.
Please feel free to browse our theme gallery here.
