Hello @idontknowyet159,
Gateway does not have an in-built way to change the footer color via the site customizer. You will need to customize the CSS codes in order to do that, which is a part of the paid WordPress.COM Premium and Business plans.
More information about editing CSS can be found here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/editing-css/So, let us know if you are on any one of these plans so that we can provide you the CSS code to change the footer color.
Thanks! 🙂

ok thanks….i dont understand this paid thing…. i am still in planning stages of my website and dont need to go ‘live’ for a few months yet as paying for an existing site.
I dont want to start paying until i go live..so how can i design what i want without paying until iam ready? -
@idontknowyet159 there’s no way to try premium features for free before paying.
But here’s what you can do:
1. Buy a plan.
2. Use it for a while(but not for more than 30-days) and see if it suits you.
3. If it does not you can cancel the plan before 30-days and get a full refund against the cancellation.WordPress.COM has a 30-day refund policy on all their paid plans, except for Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers. The refund period for Domain Registrations and Renewals is 48 hours. The refund period for Guided Transfers ends 30 days after purchase or as soon as your site has been moved, whichever comes first.
You can still cancel your plans after 30-days but you wont we refunded for your cancellation so it is suggested that you stay on the plan and let it expire.
Read more about refunds here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/refunds/
You can cancel your plans from the manage purchases section. Read more about it here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/manage-purchases/.

thx for advice… woudnt it be easier if WordPress just monitored when a website went live and started charging accordingly?
Users would be able to see what they could do then without the hassle of playing the system… feel free to pass on to whoever for feedback.. -
@idontknowyet159 yes that would be easier but sadly it isnt the case right now.
You can post your suggestions and ideas on this forum: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/ideas

This is something you would need a standalone ORG site for. We can’t connect software to a COM site.
Perhaps learning about the differences between WordPressdotcom (where we are) and the standalone WP(org) software will help you decide what best suits your needs: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
