Change DNS for Crazy Domains
-
Hi,
I was hoping you could help with changing the DNS to point to Crazy Domains. I have looked through a few of the past support tickets, but still am not too sure what I should be doing.I have attempted this using the following:
MX 1 MAIL.THEGATHERINGFLORIST.COM.
A webmail 27.54.88.34Could someone please check if these are the right settings, and whether I need to add any more information. I can send emails fine, but I am not receiving them.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.

Hi Victoria,
Are you using Crazy Domains to host your email? If not, have you looked into using Zoho Mail for email?
WordPress has put together a good tutorial on how to setup your email with Zoho here:

Hi Keith,
Thanks for replying.
And yes, I am currently using Crazy Domains to host my email account at this stage.
I have actually recently seen ZOHO. It looks a lot better than Crazy Domains, but I have already paid a fee to Crazy Domains. But from the tutorial given, it looks like I am missing some data.
Is that correct? -
Based on what has worked for others try this
MX 10 mail.THEGATHERINGFLORIST.COM.
A mail 27.54.88.34 -
I believe that the MX records you need should be given to you by Crazy Domains. They shouldn’t include your Domain Name “thegatheringflorist.com”, since your domain was purchased through WordPress.
Did Crazy Domains provide you with any setup instructions?
-
They shouldn’t include your Domain Name “thegatheringflorist.com”, since your domain was purchased through WordPress.
You need the domain name, or how does the internet knows how to match up your email with the email host – does not matter where the registration is. The IP you gave is for Crazy Domains, that is how the internet knows where to send the email packet to
Both “thegatheringflorist.com” & the IP (or equivalent, since some hosts are different for email) – if you don’t have both – your email will not work
In case you are wondering – the instructions I gave above are what made the email work yesterday (I think) for another Crazy Domains email user
Take @keith’s advice with caution

@auxclass, I am just trying to be helpful to the OP and gathering information. If the MX records have to point to your domain name, can you explain to me why in WordPress’s tutorial to setup web mail with Zoho, it states to use Zoho’s MX records:
10. Next, copy the lines below and paste them into the same box where you entered the CNAME:
MX 10 mx.zohomail.com.
MX 20 mx2.zohomail.com.http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/add-email-through-zoho-mail/

Hi All,
Firstly, thanks for all your help. This does seem to be a bit of an issue.
– @auxclass – I have copied and pasted your original code to the DNS settings. And now I am waiting to see if it works. I wish there was a way to see if the code was right.
Interestedly, this time, when I entered that data, the WordPress DNS field has swapped the “MX 10 mail…” with the “A mail 27….” (swapped positions from top to bottom)– @ auxclass – thanks for your input. I also wondered about that. But all the (limited) literature and information I got from Crazy Domains said that I only needed those two pieces of code. If I was to add the domain name, does it matter where it goes? Can I place it underneath the other two lines of code?
I will keep checking my emails to see if they work.
Thanks for your help!! -
here was the last happy camper I helped with this
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/email-account-set-up?replies=3
It can take a bit of time for the records to update
Which one is on top? – sorry not sure if it makes a difference
-
@keith – in your link
You left out the custom CNAME that is used to match Zoho mail to the domain name – so Zoho takes three lines of code to work – other email providers take 4 or 5 lines of code
Formatting is also very important – different email hosts have different formats for the MX records –
-
-
@ auxclass – so based on that last link, I believe the code should be this:
CNAME autodiscover exchange.thegatheringflorist.com.
MX 10 mail.thegatheringflorist.com.
TXT v=spf1 include: mail.thegatheringflorist.com ~all
A webmail 27.54.88.34I have simply replaced the domain with my domain name.
This is very different to what Crazy Domains have stated. If this looks correct, I shall upload after I get confirmation from you.
Thanks again for your assistance. -
Please use only what Crazy Domains and I provided. Adding CNAME and other lines will break the email.
WordPress.COM in some of their guidelines provides generic code to show you how to format different types of records – don’t put in extra records – you only need the two lines I provided
-
You be welcome
You could pass on my web site to any of your friends that are boaters or are left handed (instructions for tying a Bowline if you are left handed) :)
Good luck with your blog

ok, so a quick question: Could this code (or perhaps something else I’ve done) interrup my webmail portal site?
Now I can no longer log into the Crazy Domains web mail portal.
This just might be the DNS updating at the back end maybe? -
Probably – I have not used Crazy Domains email service – but in general extra info pointing to the wrong area can be a problem
what does the URL to your log-in page look like? Does it have your domain name in it?
-
This is usually what I use. It has access to three in-built web mail clients.
horde, squirrel, and I can’t remember the other one.https://webmail.thegatheringflorist.com:2096/
Is this what you were after?
-
yes that is what I was after
Could be an interaction of some sort – I have flagged this for the staff to review this, they are a bit backed up
I would tend to let things sit for a while, and maybe check with Crazy Domains, the last person did not mention anything about webmail log-in problems – just said that things started working fine
