change domain

I have purchased my own domain through Green Geeks: practicalfamily.org, but it is not displaying as such. How do I let WordPress know that I am hosting my own domain?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Alex,
Yes, and I didn’t realize what it mean to register the domain… I thought I did that through Green Geeks and was just letting WordPress know that I have it, lol. Yes, I did cancel the registration with GG.
What I want to know is, why does it say “practicalfamilydotorg?” instead of practicalfamily.org?

Also, how do I point the name servers over to Green Geeks instead of WordPress? I want to use WordPress within Green Geeks

Hi there,
What I want to know is, why does it say “practicalfamilydotorg?” instead of practicalfamily.org?
practicalfamily.org is the address that your visitors will see when they visit your site. You can see it in the screenshot I sent too.
The practicalfamilydotorg.wordpress.com address is an internal address that was created when you registered the domain. To make sure the domain registration goes through and there isn’t a conflict with a pre-existing site, the “dotorg” phrase is appended to the username.
If you wish to change your WordPress.com address, you can do so by following these instructions:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/
Keep in mind that this is purely for your benefit, as the WordPress.com name change will be invisible to the visitors to your site.

We have a guide on changing your domain’s name servers here:
If you want to use WordPress with that hosting service, you’ll need to use the WordPress.org software.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. At WordPress.com, we provide hosting, support, and tons of features for blogs. Users also have the option to purchase a variety of upgrades to customize the look and feel of their blog. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites, like what you’d setup with Green Geeks. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.

Let me know if you have questions about that. I’d like to help you get your site setup just right. :)
Best,
-Alex G.
