  I have paid for a hosting service on another site – through them I get free hosting – how do I switch it over so I don’t have to pay annual fee to wordpress?

  Hi there,

  WordPress is not all free. WordPress provides restricted free hosting. If you wish to have a sub-domain ( xyz.wordpress.com) you can have it free. If you wish to have custom domain, you need to purchase a plan.

  In your case, you wish to use your site with WordPress.com. So you have to map your existing domain to site. https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

  For mapping a domain it’s mandatory to buy an upgraded plan https://wordpress.com/pricing/

  Sites using our Free plan have no annual fee. However, as krutidugade mentioned, certain features are only available with paid plans. This includes a custom domain and domain mapping.
