Change Domain Name

Hi There
So I’m very new to this and didn’t realise I was setting up an account with the .wordpress.com on the end. I actually just wanted the domain I typed in. In order to change this do I need to delete this webpage and start again, or is it about upgrading? I’m using wordpress because I have my eye on a specific theme and would like good support but do want to own my domain.
This could be a really silly question – sorry it that’s the case.

It’s not a silly question :)
Your WordPress.com blog comes with a free address, like thegazemagcom.wordpress.com. You can get rid of the .wordpress.com part and use a custom domain name instead, like thegazemagcom.com.
Adding a domain is a paid upgrade, you do not need to start again.

Hi, I’m Kai. I have domain name. I have an extra character in the domain name that I don’t want. I’d like to know if I can change the domain name or do I have to delete the domain name and start from scratch?

I also set up my address incorrectly as: httphuntfishexplore.com I didn’t mean to put the http on the front of that. How can I change it? I tried adding a domain by that name but it said it was taken. I don’t believe it is actually taken. Any chance you can help?

Once a domain is registered it cannot be altered. You will need to cancel the misspelt domain and purchase a domain with the correct spelling.
Domain registrations can be canceled within 48 hours of registration so I’ve tagged this thread for staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when there is a reply.

Can you please provide the domain that’s misspelled and tell me what it should be? It’s not possible to give you an accurate answer if I don’t know the domain in question.
At this point I can still help you with your domain, but the domain, HUNTFISHEXPLORE.COM, does already exist and belongs to someone else, so you won’t be able to register that domain anywhere. A domain can only have one owner.

Thanks for that great advice but there is alot of information here and I am still a little confused about the steps I need to take.
thegazemagcom is not what I want to use at all. I put the com in when I forst registered it, not realise it was going to come through like that. I want to change it to something like thegazemag or something else that is available.
Do I add the update to the plan before I can change it? Or do I actually have to delete this one if I don’t want the com that’s currently in the title?

So you want to change the free *.wordpress.com address? That was not clear from your original post.
If you type in domain.com when you sign up, a free address is automatically created for domaincom.wordpress.com. To change the free address, go to My Site ->Domains and click the arrow next to your domain. There you will see the option to change the free address.
It looks like https://thegazemag.wordpress.com/ already exists, so you won’t be able to use that address, but you can change it so something else.
If you want a custom domain, meaning just domain.com without “wordpress” in the address, you will first need to add a plan under My Site ->Plans. Then you can add a domain afterwards.
