Change domain name but keep same page and content.

I have an established domain name and want to change it. Do I have to purchase a new domain or can I just change the one I have when I renew? Is there a way to redirect followers and new readers to the new domain? Can I keep my same page and content if I get a new domain? Please help! I have to renew in 19 days. Unfortunately domain names cannot be changed. New ones have to be purchased and substituted in for the old one. The good news is that you can have as many domains as you would like attached to your WordPress.com blog (heathersblessedjourney.wordpress.com) as you would like and then you just select which domain is the primary one (ie; which domain stays in the URL bar when someone visits your site).
So you will need to log in to your blog’s Dashboard and then go to Store >> My Domains and then click the button to buy a new domain. Search for the domain you want and purchase it. Once you do, you can follow the directions right here to make it your primary domain:

Once you’ve done that, make sure your other domain doesn’t have autorenew on so that it expires in a few weeks (under Store >> My Upgrades) and you’ll be good to go!

So the underlying issue is the archived content on the current site. If I get a new domain, does the domain for the current site change to the new one or will I loose all the content and have to start over? Will there be a page that redirects searchers to the new domain? If so, how long will that page be up?

I apologize that I wasn’t clear! All of your content will stay right where it is. The only thing that will change is the domain name associated with your current site and all of its content.
No matter what your content is safe and always will be at heathersblessedjourney.wordpress.com. Your domain name (heathersblessedjourney.com or whatever new domain name you purchase) is an optional add-on which you can direct people to in order to have an easier way for people to find your site. But even if you decide to get rid of the custom domain, your content will always be there!
As far as redirects go, as long as you keep your original domain, it will redirect to your new one. However once that domain expires visitors to that domain will get an error and won’t pull anything up, so it becomes up to you whether or not it’s worth it to keep both domains active.
