Change domain name – misspelled by me

  • Unknown's avatar

I noticed that I misspelled violence a while ago, but haven’t found a way to update/repair the domain name. It’s starting to look like cancelling the subscription and (maybe) starting over is my only option. Is that the case? No, adding a corrected domain URL at extra charge isn’t an acceptable solution.

    Please advise. Thanks!

Also, I’m not running an adblocker in Chrome, but the support chat system refuses to load. :-(

  • Are you trying to change your WordPress.com URL (voilenceandsarcasm.wordpress.com) or the custom domain associated with your account (voilenceandsarcasm.org) or both?

Ideally, both, but I’d like to use the custom one to share links into the blog.

  • So, to change your custom URL, you would need to purchase a new domain name. Going forward, you could cancel the incorrectly spelled one and use the domain credit that comes with WordPress.com Premium to renew the correctly spelled one. But you cannot switch domain registrations after 48 hours (and you have had that one registered for close to a year now).

  • If you would like to change your WordPress.com site’s URL, there are options and instructions for doing so here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

Please bear in mind that once changed, that site’s original WordPress.com URL will become permanently unavailable for future use by you or any other user. If you feel that you might need that URL again in the future, you might consider starting a new site with your preferred name rather than changing the name of your existing site.

That said, you don’t REALLY need to change the ______.wordpress.com URL if you are using a custom domain.Since the custom domain is the only thing viewers ever see.

Please let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.

Thanks for the help. It was my mistake, but it’s not one I’m willing to pay money to fix. So it’s time to shut the thing down and maybe rebuild it somewhere down the road. It was an interesting experience. I enjoyed the tools wordpress has to offer.
