Change domain name without losing original blog
-
So I want to change the name of my blog to where there is no wordpress.com in the domain name. I already own thestrongerway.com on strato.
So when I added this domain name to my wordpress page, it did not show my blog. Now Strato has an option to create a wordpress via their website but then you’d make a new blog (so I would lose my current layout).Does anyone have the answer? What is the best option to go from here?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there. So you want to stay on WordPress.com, and just use the domain you already own, thestrongerway.com, with your WordPress.com site at http://thestrongerway.wordpress.com/
In that case you need to do two things:
1) Go to http://thestrongerway.wordpress.com/ ‘s dashboard and buy the domain mapping upgrade if you haven’t yet, and
2) Contact your domain’s registrar, Strato, and have them change your domain’s name servers to point to WordPress.com. Complete instructions here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Let us know if you need more help with this.

They said I need to put the IP adress of my wordpress blog in the a-record. So the next step is, where can I find my IP adress of my wordpress blog?

Mapping by IP address is not the best option, as WordPress.com IP addresses change over time and when that happens the mapping will stop working.
But if that’s the only way the can map the domain staff can give you the current IP addresses. I’ll tag this thread for them to follow up. Please be patient while waiting for a reply.

Thank you!
I will contact them again and ask other options because if it keeps changing, it will probably be not a good option to do it via IP address like you said.Anyways, thank you for your help so far.

The recommended option is to change the name servers, as that’s the most stable, but I know not all registrars do it that way. Still, it won’t do harm to ask them.
When I say the IPs can change I also don’t mean weekly or even monthly, but if you map the domain that way you might find yourself having to update it from time to time.

I see. Then the IP adress would be a short term fix, and in the long term I might change registrars to one that allows it.

Changing to a registrar that doesn’t require the IP of your site might be the best long-term solution, yes. Staff might also have another suggestion when they reply.

The best way to map a domain to a WordPress.com blog is to set your domain’s name servers to the following values:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
However, if your registrar requires that you create A records, please note that our IPs change over time. Because of this, your domain might stop working at some point in the future. If that happens, please get in touch with us to find out the most current IPs and then update your A records, accordingly.
If you still want to map your domain using A records, please be sure to create two records using these IP addresses:
192.0.78.25
192.0.78.24
