  how can I make a simpler domain without having to upgrade?

  WordPress.com sites without a paid plan are eligible to have a free WordPress.com subdomain, or one of a select number of free .blog domains like the .home.blog address mentioned. If you are looking for the option of a .com without the additional step in the address, you will want to upgrade your site.
