Change domain(url) name

    WordPress is a very complicated process when trying to get answers. I would like to change my domain name to a different name but have look all over for an answer but still unsuccessful. I know i only pay $28 a year but still i would except a better customer service. If i can’t get that maybe i need to switch somewhere different.
    Please help!

    Hi there,

    I’m sorry you have had trouble getting help! I took a look at your support history and it seems that most of your questions are related to domain registration.

    I think a bit of explanation of how this works might help. When you buy a domain, you’re registering the use of that exact domain name for a period of time (usually a year). While you have it, no one else can use it. It’s the exact name itself that you’re registering, so unlike your .wordpress.com URL, your domain name cannot be changed or edited. Rather, you’d have to cancel your registration of that domain name and purchase registration of an entirely new domain name.

    If you decide that you want a different domain name, what you can do is register a second one. Then, you can set the new one to “primary” and the old one will automatically redirect to the first.

    This is good, because presumably you have some traffic going to your existing domain name, and when you add a second one in this way, both of them point to your blog. So you still keep all that traffic. Then, you can let your original domain name expire when it was going to, and by then, all of your traffic should be used to going to the new one anyway.

    Does this clear things up a bit?
