Change Draft Font Size/Type

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi there, I am asking about another site that I manage. It seems the font that appears while I draft posts has changed to a smaller, 10pt serif Times New Roman instead of usual 12pt sans serif Helvetica, which is much easier to read as it is larger. Do you know how to revert my draft font size to what it used to be? I can’t find any information about this, or why it would have happened. No computer changes were made – just one day, poof! My draft font size and type changed. I would love to know how to change it back. Again, this is not for my site but another site I manage on WordPress and I am referring to what I see when I draft a post, not the public facing site, as nothing is wrong with that part. Thanks so much for your help!

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

Are you able to confirm the URL of the website that you need assistance with please?

I have this exact question. I can’t stand the serif font that is now in the editor all of the sudden. My WP site fonts look great and nothing has changed there, but the editor is what has changed for the worse. My site is https://leadingquestions.blog

aleone89, please see similar issue reported from leadingqs. It’s a non profit account I run, that I am experiencing this issue with. If I can reach someone directly, that would be great but I couldn’t find a phone number. That said, if you can address this issue we are both having in a comment reply here, I’d greatly appreciate it. Just not sure why the font would have changed for composing blog posts and no option to change it back to the way it was? Thank you kindly for your help! Much appreciated.

  • So, if I understand correctly, you haven’t made any changes to your site https://leadingquestions.blog, yet when you try to create a new post now, the font in the editor is different than what it used to be. The letters are smaller and use a different font. When you publish the post, everything looks just as it used to.

    Is that what happens?

If so, could you share a screenshot of what you see on your editor? You can use an online tool for that (such as https://snipboard.io/) and paste the link into your reply. Also, remember that from the account leadingqs, you can access live chat directly from https://wordpress.com/help/contact.

staff-mckluskey Correct, this is what is happening. Do you know why the font would have changed for composing a post and how to change it back? That’s all I need help with. Same for the other user it seems. Thank you!

Yes, and here is the link to the screenshot of how it looks now.

Nevermind, just figured it out. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner of an edit screen and choose “Preferences” at the bottom. Then unselect “Use theme styles”. I have no idea how this setting was changed. I did not do it.

Screenshot of the preferences window here.

Genius. Thanks! I’ll try that tonight.

  • Hi there,

I can see that your site leadingquestions.blog is using one of our classic themes (Baskerville 2) which was launched many years before we had our current block editor.

As a result it may not take full advantage of the block editor as it continues to evolve to add new features, which seems to be the case here. As new features are added to our modern block editor, older themes like this may fall further out of date.

@leadingqs you can try turning off the theme styles and this will show a default font in the editor that is closer to your current theme:

This is not an exact match to what your theme uses, so I also recommend using the preview option at the top of your editor to preview what the finished post will look like for the most accurate representation.

    @positivelysecond
Can you share the URL of the site you are referring to? Issues like this can be very specific to your site so we would not know if you have the same issue or not without taking a closer look at it, thanks.

Oh, bless you! Turning off “Use theme styles” worked on my page that I manage. That was exactly it, and the composing font style is back to its much nicer looking style. Mark this as solved! Thank you, @staff-totoro and @leadingqs for your insights on this. Hooray! Have a great night.

Nevermind. I just found the answer. When I am in the post and click on the three dots in the upper right corner then choose “Preferences,” then I see the window (see screenshot) and turned off “Use theme styles”. That put it back to a non-serif font. I have never touched this setting so somehow it was changed auto-magically.
