    I am trying to change my email address on my account. I had another account that used that email account but I have deleted that account. Why would the address not be free’d up to use?

    The email address registered with WordPress.com accounts are always unique identifiers. You can update them by visiting Account Settings. Here is the support document for the same: https://en.support.wordpress.com/email-address/.

    But as you have used the same email address in two accounts out of which one account is deleted, one has to check the details of both accounts. Only staff have access to this information, therefore, I am adding modlook tag for their intervention.

    The email address connected to the deleted account will only be available for re-use once the data in the closed account is completely removed from our system. That will happen around 30 days after the date on which you requested the account closure.

    The OP did not say anywhere that they used the same email for two accounts – which is completely impossible on WordPress.com – but that they want to use the email that was previously used with a deleted account and that it is showing as already used when they try to do that. Please read questions carefully before you reply.

    There’s also no way for staff to check anything without knowing the actual email address they’re trying to use, or the username of the deleted account, so next time, please ask for that type of information before tagging the thread for staff.

    Yes, the user mentioned that he used the email in another account which is now deleted. This is why I repeated his concern saying: ‘But as you have used the same email address in two accounts out of which one account is deleted’. However, after reading your response to the user, I understand that my reply was not clear. It might confuse the user. I’ll try to be more clear next time. :)
