  I am trying to change the email address

  Hello there,

  You can change your email address from your Account Settings.

  Replace the current email address with the new one. Once it’s done, click the “Save Account Settings” button to validate your edits. Shortly after you’ll receive an email at the new address with a confirmation link. If you don’t see the email on your inbox, check also in the junk/spam.
  You must click the confirmation link you’ll find on the email to confirm the change and update the email on your account.

  When I go into Account Settings and try to change my Email Address, I just receive an error: There was a problem saving your changes. My profile has an email address that I no longer own.

  Our support docs do not apply to (1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or (2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM. You are posting to the wrong support forum.

  WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  As you are referring to a wordpress.ORG software install on paid hosting, if you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

  I am unclear on this, but I am trying to change my email address on wordpress.com. Do I have to create a new profile on wordpress.com?

  I see now that apparently I had/have another profile with that email address, so there was a conflict. I will track that one down.
