Change email for seh5516

  • Unknown's avatar

I am closing my web site chelverton.com and wish to use (email visible only to moderators and staff) (and not (email visible only to moderators and staff)).
I get a message saying the gmail address is already in use so I cannot update the account email.
(I have used the gmail address for Gravatar – is this the conflict?)

    Please advise.

  • Hi there,

I get a message saying the gmail address is already in use so I cannot update the account email.
(I have used the gmail address for Gravatar – is this the conflict?)

Yes, it is a conflict. A Gravatar profile requires a WordPress.com account which means the Gmail address is connected to another WordPress.com account. Since an email can only be connected to one WordPress.com account simultaneously, you will need to change the email connected to your Gravatar account if you want to use it with a different WordPress.com account.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks!

Thanks for your confirmation. However, I am unsure how to proceed, I have two active websites:

I have a Gravatar which is displayed while editing the Sorigny site, currently using my chelverton email but not accepting my password, so have logged in using my gmail address.

I have also started a draft private WordPress site ‘Chelvertoncom’ (no dot) to provide a summary of what was as info for old friends and colleagues or new connections on LinkedIn.

The plan is to close my closed Limited UK company website and only use my gmail account.

Any advice on the best order of actions would be much appreciated. Possible actions include:

    • Change the failing password
    • Close the Gravatar account or use a different gmail, microsoft or other email – does this free up hosting the Chelvertoncom site when it is developed?
    • Copy the chelverton site as a PDF
    • Develop the Chelvertoncom site and find a host – am I allowed to have one or more free sites hosted with WordPress ?
    • Change the login addresses to my gmail address
    • Close the chelverton site and all its email addresses.

Doubtless I have missed things or misunderstood, so any advice is welcome. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your confirmation but my situation is a little more complex – here are some more details NOT just concerning email change.

  • Thank you for that full explanation. Sadly though, we are not able to help with account recovery here in the support forums, as verifying account ownership requires you to provide info that is best not shared in this public venue.

With this in mind, please fill out this form here to the best of your ability: https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

This will send all the info you have to our account recovery team, and from there they will contact you directly to assist you in regaining access to the account. Once you have regained access, you can change the email on that account to “free it up” for use with this account.

Once you have done that, you can close your other account if you will not need it further, and we’re happy to walk you through that process once you’re under the correct account. Thanks!
