change featured image to slideshow

Using the twenty sixteen theme is it possible to make my home page have a slideshow of images instead of a single featured image?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Featured images are always single images. A blog post or a page for any WordPress.com site on any theme cannot have more than one featured image as a slideshow.

1s17networking – you can also add a gallery slideshow to a post or page — that would be one workaround if you wanted to stick with Twenty Sixteen.
