1. We have always been able to switch to the HTML editor and do what’s described in the support documentation font size and color entry and that amounts to using HTML on a post by post and page by page basis.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/font-size-color/2. We can use TypeKit fonts to change fonts throughout our blogs Appearance > TypeKit Fonts
3. The third way to change font style, size and color is to purchase an annually renewable CSS upgrade from wordpress.com and change fonts throughout the entire blog by means of CSS editing. This upgrade is only recommended to those who have experience with CSS editing as there is no Staff support for it, and precious little Volunteer support. Those who do purchase the upgrade are expected to possess at least moderate understanding of HTML and CSS because they must be prepared to work independently when editing CSS stylesheets for their themes.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-css/4. The fourth way we can change font size, style and color on WordPress.com blogs is by changing themes.

Today, suddenly, my new (and old) post appear in a scrawny font … did something change at the WP end? or do i need new glasses :-).

Have you changed themes? If so that change mean a change in font size. If not have you copied and pasted any content into your posts. That can also cause a variation in font size.

@tt: vastheart’s source code is clean – no pasting from other sources. So it’s either guess 1 or guess 3…

You’re welcome. There’s nothing wrong with Goodle Chrome as far as font size is concerned. Check the article timethief linked to.
