Change from MT to WordPress?
-
I’m interested in moving my blog from MT to WordPress… I currently have a package hosting/ MT license through Yahoo and their SQL database keeps crashing. It’s happened to several people besides me, and the support is horrible.
So if I do switch, how do I start? How do I transfer all of my files without having to rebuild, or will I have to rebuild no matter what? I have a custom-built blog site, and I don’t want to use WP templates. Is that a problem? Can’t find anything on the site answering my questions and can’t find a WP person to talk to on the phone… maybe a sign that WP shouldn’t be my new home.
Anyhow, thoughts? Insights? Help…?
Thx,
Amy -
I’m afraid you’re at the wrong place. The place to ask these questions is: http://wordpress.org/support/

I did that, and I’m getting no response. Perhaps the answer is no, I shouldn’t switch from MT to WP…

I’m sorry but our worpress-MU (multi-user) software here at wordpress.com is not the same as the stand alone software from http://wordpress.org so we can’t help you here.

WordPress org is very fine software and gives you complete independence and control. It is also FREE.
But if you want a lot of hand holding, corporate office, telephone support etc – it is not for you. -
It is not that we don’t want to help ochizuki, but this support is only for hosted blogs at wordpress.com and not other hosted blogs like yourself. I will tell you this though, if you have an MT export file it is easily loaded up through an import screen once you have a WP install up and running. Check out this documentation as a starting point and then direct your comments to the forums in http://wordpress.org/support/
Thanks,
Trent
