Change header quality – Ecto (Free)
-
Hi,
Is there any way to change the quality of my header images in the Ecto free template, or do I have to upgrade to Premium? I have some nice images but they are being mangled to death by the compression in the header.
Additionally are all headers compressed on WordPress of does it vary between free templates?
Note: I did look at this suggestion, but the ‘Editor’ tab under ‘Appearance’ is missing, presumably because it’s premium?
Thanks

It’s likely the change you’re seeing in the image is being caused by the image being scaled in the theme CSS to fill the screen.
The recommended image size, which you’re using (that’s good) is 1440×600 – but on a computer screen that is taller than 600px, the image is stretched a little to make it tall enough. This also results in a bit of the image being cut off on the left and right.
Try using a slightly taller image, so the aspect ratio is closer to that of common computer screens.
Something like 1440×810 would put you closer to a widescreen (16:9) format. It won’t account for the varied height of individual visitor’s browser toolbars, but that’s always going to be a bit of an uncontrollable variable :)
