Change hosting

How do I change from wordpress hosting to another hosting service and keep the same name?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If the name ends in ‘wordpress.com’, you can’t. By definition that means a blog that is hosted at WordPress.com.

Thank you for your reply, tellyworth. Does that mean that newbieaffiliates is “registered” at wordpress.com? If it is, why is it that other hosting services allow you to buy a domain name from one service and then transfer it to another? Please forgive my ignorance. As the name of the blog suggests, I’m very new to this. Been at it for three months, it’s a very steep learning curve.

Are you wanting your blog here at wordpress.com, http://newbieaffiliates.wordpress.com , to show http://newbieaffiliates.com in the address title bar? Is that what you are wanting?

“why is it that other hosting services allow you to buy a domain name from one service and then transfer it to another?”
-This only has to do with top-level domains that you register/own, such as “domain.com” or “example.com”. Your WordPress.com domain is simply a sub-domain of WordPress.com (like blog.domain.com or blog.example.com). This is what tellyworth was getting at; it cannot be transferred.

Thank you for your responses.
SACRED PATH: Yes, that is what I wanted to do. I’ve since discovered that that domain is taken. I now plan to host with a different domain at Hostgator that has wordpress support, and create blog/website there and eliminate the sub-domain problem.
BUBEL: Thank you, I now understand. I think my plan (see above) will work.
Thank you all.

If all you need is a blog, yu can domain map a new name to your blog here which will mean your blog would show up as http://yournewdomain.com.
